I have always wanted an Transformers Optimus Prime toys ever since I watched the Transformers animated series when I was little. However, I never got my hand on one, until now. When I say Takara Tomy’s Masterpiece MP-4 Optimus Prime is being re-released complete with the trailer, I was excited. Placed the order on amazon.co.jp and just arrived from Japan recently. Yes this is the Japanese version, a lot of die-cast metal parts are used in this and way better than any version released in the North America in terms of built quality. The package is really heavy, nearly 4kg, the shipping itself from Japan was a whopping ¥6,800.
Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-4 Optimus Prime (タカラトミー トランスフォーマー マスターピース MP-4 コンボイ 完全版). Released on October 2009 with a MSRP of ¥18,000.
Here’s the box, front and back.
Inside that big box there are two separate box. Optimus Prime and the trailer is packaged separately.
Here’s a shot after finally cleaned up all the packaging material.
Transformed him into the truck mode and then attached the trailer. The wheels has suspensions built in. So it bounces a bit if you push down on the truck. The smoke stack is also on a spring so that one doesn’t have to worry about breaking the smoke stack when transforming.
The battle station can be made to sit on top of the trailer. And the back of the trailer has a fully functional door and loading ramp.
The trailer have feet that flips out when it is being stored.
The trailer opens flat to reveal the combat deck. Here’s a shot of Optimus Prime using the combat deck.
The trailer also have slots to store all of Optimus Prime’s weapons. The only thing that’s missing from this is the roller. Why is the roller missing Takara Tomy?
If you stand the trailer vertically, it becomes the repair bay.
One more shot of the prime with the trailer. And Optimus Prime holding the laser rifle.
Here are the two other weapons that comes with Optimus Prime. Megatron in gun mode and energy axe.
Two communicators on the arm. Megatron on the left and Bumblebee on the left.
There’s chest flips up revealing the Creation Matrix. There is an LED light in the chest that lights up when you press the button on his shoulder. The Creation Matrix can be taken out, but I can’t seem to pose Optimus Prime with him holding the Creation Matrix because the arm can’t get close enough to actually hold it.
Here’s another shot of the arm with the communicator. The hand features individual articulated fingers. And all those pistons around the arm joint, they actually move when you move the arm.
Here’s a shot at the back. Those pistons on the legs move when you move his feet. A side shot showing the detail on the tank and the wheel.
Optimus Prime is very pose-able. Arm articulates well and legs can be turned to different direction at the hip joint. All the joints clicks and locks into place so it holds the pose very well.
That being said, can’t resist the temptation to pose him into some funny pose. 😈
How about a caramelldansen prime version. 😀 Okay maybe that didn’t work out so well compare to my moe dolls.
Finish it off with a cool pose.
And here’s a 2D Optimus Prime for comparison.
Oh man! I swear to God I used to have this when I was smaller (but the completely plastic version). Unfortunately pieces of it got broken, like the exhaust pipes, and thus it went into the garbage. Good times were had with Optimus Prime.
