Dollfie Dream Saber Fate/Extra Version, Dollfie Dream Saber Alter 2nd Version, Saber Alter’s Training Jacket Set, and Saber Alter’s Swimsuit Set, one of each will be coming to me from Volks USA by April of 2012. The total of the spending spree came out to be 1,569 USD + 91.75 USD for shipping to Canada. Expensive indeed, but consider that Dollfie Dream Saber Lily was 1,045 USD, the price for these two dolls are much reasonable. The pre-order closes on October 30, 2001, so there’s still just over a month to place your order.

I’ve been sportting Marisa’s DDS banner on my blog for [...]]]> Volks’ new Dollfie Dream body is named Dollfie Dream Sister (DDS) and it’s 50cm in height compared to Dollfie Dream Base Body II’s height of 60cm. The first two dolls release in this body is Touhou Project’s (東方Project) Hakurei Reimu (博麗霊夢) and Kirisame Marisa (霧雨魔理沙). I’ve been sportting Marisa’s DDS banner on my blog for some time now and of course I had Marisa ordered last year. The order for the Touhou DDs started on September 19, 2010 all the way to October 24, 2010. The doll is only being produced based on the orders placed. The price for the doll is ¥58,800. There’s also a short wig for Marisa at ¥5,040 and a Touhou Accessories Set at ¥4,725 available to be ordered during the ordering period. The Touhou dolls started shipping on February 25, 2011 and mine is among the first batches being shipped out. And after a week worth of waiting for the package to be delivered in Japan and then forwarded from Japan to North America, I finally got my first Dollfie Dream Sister doll.

So here it is, my quick unboxing of Touhou Project Dollfie Dream Sister Kirisame Marisa. Here’s what the box look like. Apparently the pair of ribbons that secures the doll to the cardboard carrier are both broken presumably during transport. But the doll is pretty tough. I don’t see any significant damage, so all is well.

The a few months later in December of 2008, Volks released Saber Alter. Saber Alter is actually identical to Saber in terms of head sculpture. The wig is also nearly identical with a different coloured hair, a different coloured ribbon at the back and sans ahoge on top. So the only difference is Saber Alter is in white colour and has a different/much simpler outfit than Saber. Surprisingly thought, due to the popularity of Saber Alter, at times it actually fetches higher prices in auctions than original Saber. It really gave a new meaning to “less is more”. Now 2 years after Saber Alter’s release, in 2010, Volks released Fate/unlimited codes Dollfie Dream Saber Lily with a brand new yet even more complex outfit/armor set than the original Saber. It also sports a new head sculpture and a new new wig. Since I own both the original dollfie dream Saber and the new dollfie dream Saber Lily, I decide to do a side by side comparison so that the difference between the two can be examined in detail.

Let’s start by comparing the head and the wigs. Despite the obvious difference in wigs, one thing to note is that the ahoge on Saber and Saber Lily points at different directions.

More on that later, now onto the unboxing. Volks Dollfie Dream Saber Lily from Fate/unlimited code is a Dolpa 24 limited item. Dolpa 24 was held on December 12, 2010 at Tokyo Big Site. The MSRP for Saber Lily is ¥95,000 which is the same price as Dollfie Dream Saber which was released back in 2008. You can get more information on Saber Lily from Volks’ official web page.

Personally I like the original Dollfie Dream Saber’s head more, but none the less I still wanted to get Saber Lily because I really like the clothing and the accessories that comes with the doll. However, Saber Lily is a Dolpa 24 limited item, so I can’t just order it from Volks’ web site. I’ve looked at the Yahoo Japan Auction listing right after Dolpa 24, and the prices is around 200,000 JPY. With Saber Lily’s MSRP being 99,750 JPY, I wanted to see if I can obtain her without paying such a high premium. Today is my lucky day because Santa Clause has delivered to me one of the greatest Christmas present. I’ve won Saber Lily and the accessory Distant Avalon. Now begins the long wait until I can get her home. And of course once I do, there will be plenty of photos.

For now I’ll just have to look at these official photos from Volks.

While Volks tends to have more wigs of natural hair colours, and natural hair styles, Dollfie Dream characters are mostly anime or anime styled characters. Therefore I always wanted to get some wigs that has more anime character feel to it. Here’s where Miruya comes in. Miruya makes an assortment of wigs for different dollfie sizes and has a wide range of colours and styles compared to typical Volks offerings. The wigs uses heat resistant fibers so that you should be able to style it with an iron (up to 180℃) without damaging it. And best of all their wigs are available in a wide range of colors for every single style. And since I was thinking about expanding my wigs collection, I figured that I’d give them a try.

The dress comes with a two piece bikini, but also a crop top and a denim shorts. Kanu was wearing it with the crop top and denim shorts in all the previous photos. Failing to secure my Rin’s swimsuit through Volks USA, I had to use Yahoo Japan Auction to get Rin’s swimsuit directly from Japan. It turns out that after all the deputy fees and shipping, buying directly from Japan through auction is actually cheaper than buying from Volks USA. Come on Volks, this is such a simple clothing set, plenty available in Japan. I can’t believe that I enter the lottery for two and can only get one of them. Not to mention, now with only one small item, the shipping charge is nearly the same amount as the item itself. Had I known that, I would have just bought both from Japan directly. Much cheaper and faster that way. Well rants aside, here’s Rin in her sexy red two piece.
